HumRRO is pleased to announce that the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) selected Art Thacker, Ph.D., principal scientist, as editor of the NCME Newsletter for a three-year term beginning January 2021.
The NCME Newsletter is a quarterly publication covering news and current events related to research and practice in educational measurement as well as providing membership with updates on events and activities of the NCME Board of Directors and its committees. Thacker will step into the editor role when Megan Welsh, Ph.D., associate professor at the University of California, Davis, School of Education, wraps up her three-year term at the end of this year.
“I am honored to have been selected as editor of the NCME Newsletter,” Thacker said. “I will do my best to maintain the high quality of the newsletter and to serve its readers. The newsletter helps bring context to the science of educational measurement and that has never been more important to our community of scientists.”
As principal scientist at HumRRO, Thacker contributes to blogs on timely education topics and regularly reviews and edits material to ensure content is accurate, engaging, and relevant for educational stakeholders. Two of his reports have won the Lola Zook Award for excellence in technical communication.
In addition to soliciting and planning content for each issue, the NCME Newsletter editor mentors graduate student columnists, a role Thacker enjoys, having served as a mentor to several HumRRO junior staff members and graduate student interns over the years.
Thacker continues the long tradition of service by HumRRO staff, honoring our mission as a nonprofit to give back to science and society. As editor, he plans to focus on developing new strategies to select content from a diverse community of NCME members in terms of fields, career paths, and demographics.
