Gavan O’Shea, Manager of our Creative Services Group, was recently elected to represent the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) on the American Psychological Association (APA) Council of Representatives. The council, which acts as APA’s chief policy making legislative body, is comprised of members from APA’s 54 divisions and representatives from each state, provincial, and territorial psychological association. Gavan is one of four council members representing SIOP (along with Tammy Allen, Jeff McHenry, and Sara Weiner) and his 3-year term runs through 2022.
Gavan is continuing a tradition of HumRRO council service—both Deirdre Knapp (2006-2009 and 2015-2017) and Deb Whetzel (2013-2015) were also elected as SIOP representatives, and former HumRRO President Bill Strickland served two terms as a Society for Military Psychology representative. Gavan’s service to SIOP includes recently chairing the Workshop Committee and joining the Executive Board as a council representative in 2020. He noted that “because SIOP recently initiated a very thoughtful strategic planning process, it is an exciting time to join the board. I’m really looking forward to learning more about professional association governance and contributing to SIOP and APA over the next several years.”
